This week we get to know Rebecca Powers, a make up artist!!
Tell us a little about yourself...
I am a true islander, born and raised! I am passionate about my family (2 vivacious boys and a wonderful husband), life in the maritimes, and of course beauty!
What inspired you to become a make up artist?
I've loved makeup since my Tinkerbell Makeup kit got me through the late 80's. So 10 years ago while in uni, I took a makeup course for fun at the local aesthetics college, and learned the basics of makeup application. That summer, I was asked to do my first bridal party and I've been fulfilling my passion ever since.
What is your favourite type of look to create?
My favourite type of look to create would have to be a true smokey eye. This look is different for everyone, based on their eye and skin colour and shape of their eye. Determining what shades and contour works for each individual is so fun and fulfilling.
How long have you been doing bridal make up?
2017 marked 10 years since I started doing bridal makeup. Looking forward to my 11th year!
How long do you typically require for bridal make up?
I typically require about 45 minutes to complete a bride's perfect look for her day.
Do you offer a trial?
I do offer trials for brides and strongly encourage them! A bride's makeup look is not only determined by her exterior, it's really important to me to get to know a person and their likes and dislikes before delving in to creating the perfect look for them for their most important day.
How large of a bridal party can you accommodate? Do you have a minimum?
To ensure my work is not compromised, I do have a maximum of 8 people per bridal party. I also have a minimum of 4 per party.
What is your favourite part of being a part of a couple's special day?
Being involved in a couple's special day is an honour. The fact that I'm able to enhance their day in some way is an incredible feeling. So I'd have to say my favourite part of being a makeup artist on a wedding day is getting to know each person I work on, on an individual basis. Really getting to know each person in the short time we have and hearing each story really enables me to create the look I think really suits them. It's an exhilarating feeling having each person leave my chair feeling like the most amazing version of themselves.
Do you offer on-site services?
I offer on-site services and I also travel to a person's destination of choice.
Do you do make up full time?
I am a part-time makeup artist. In my daytime life, I work virtually in communications for an Employee Assistance Program.
What are your favourite brands to work with?
My absolute favourite brands to work with are Urban Decay, NARS, MAC, Estee Lauder and Tarte to name a few! A question I get asked all the time is what is my favourite mascara. And I have to say my absolute fave mascara of all time is Maybelline Great Lash. I've tried them all and this one is by far the best!
