VENDOR SHOWCASE: Marsha Weeks, Marriage Commissioner

This week on our vendor showcase is Marsha Weeks, of Your PEI Wedding!

Tell us a little about yourself:

Hi! My name is Marsha Weeks and I'm a Marriage Commissioner (Officiant) with the Province of PEI! I'm almost 35 years old and besides, watching "Four Weddings" or "Say Yes to the Dress" or writing ceremonies,  I have 2 miniature daschunds who keep me very busy!  I also love to spend time practicing my fiddle, which is another one of my passions.  I thrive on being busy, I’m soft hearted and I love hearing about a great love story! I would love to be part of your special day!

What inspired you to become a licensed marriage commissioner?

I'm "in love with love"! I've always been an extreme romantic at heart and I LOVE weddings. I felt like becoming a Marriage Commissioner was something I was meant to do and I think that translates into my work. I think the most intimate part of the day IS the wedding ceremony and to get to be a part of that is absolutely amazing. I've always felt as though I had something to offer as Marriage Commissioner -  recognizing that very couple is different and every couple has a vision of their perfect day. Whether they prefer a "short and sweet" ceremony or something unique or inclusive of other elements, personal stories or special touches, my job is to respect the wishes of the couple. I love what I do and I'm forever grateful I'm a PEI Marriage Commissioner.

What is your favourite type of ceremony to perform?

For me, it's not about just reciting words from a page but capturing the essence of the couple. Funny, romantic, light hearted, mushy, serious - or all of the above - a personalized ceremony with tears and laughter is really my goal for each wedding ceremony! My favourite part of the ceremony is when couple can just be in the moment and be themselves after months and sometimes years of planning their special day. I also love when a couple can share what makes their relationship unique and special and incorporate it into the ceremony!  Although not for every couple, writing your own vows and promises is something that is special and personal as well. If you can't tell, I have many favourite parts of the ceremony!

How long have you been performing wedding ceremonies?

I'm happy to say I'm heading into my 6th wedding seasons!

How many marriages do you typically officiate?

I feel fortunate that I've been able to keep quite busy as a Marriage Commissioner and I'm usually officiating anywhere from 4-6 ceremonies every weekend!

What is your favourite part of being a part of a couple's special day?

To be standing in front of a couple as they make their forever promises to each other is a privilege and a gift. These moments are always so heartfelt and genuine and at that moment you are witnessing such a range of emotions (happy, nervous, excitement) but the part I like the best is -- as soon as the processional begins and everyone is walking up the aisle....in this moment,  everyone forgets about the wedding details like colour schemes, hairstyles, family dynamics, food, drinks, decorating etc. At that moment, it's just about the couple and the reason they are there...to celebrate and confirm their love and commitment and I love that.  It's very real and intimate, and I am blessed to have a front row seat!

Do you have another job aside from officiating weddings?

I've been very fortunate to have worked in events and wedding coordination for most of my professional career, but have recently accepted a position with the PEI Children's Wish Foundation as their Wish Coordinator. A very rewarding position that allows me to use my heart!

What would be your dream location to perform a wedding?

I'm a big Anne of Green Gables fan and while I have had the opportunity to read some of LM Montgomery's work at ceremonies, I have never had the chance to marry a couple at the historic site.   PEI is such a beautiful place though, so I've been honoured to officiate at many beautiful venues and locations all across our wonderful province!

Can you create a personalized ceremony for our wedding?

Absolutely! It would be my pleasure and I definitely encourage it. The more you can give me in terms of explaining what makes you "you as a couple",  the more I can give you in terms of a perfect ceremony!

What is the best way to get in touch with you?

The best way to reach me is through my website at www.yourpeiwedding.com or at marsha@yourpeiwedding.com or by phone at 902-314-1865. I'm also on Facebook @yourpeiwedding or Instagram @marshaelizabethweeks

"Just when we thought something might not be possible at the ceremony, Marsha made sure, if it was truly important to us, that it happened."

"She was patient and kind throughout the planning process. Most importantly though, Marsha brought a genuine joyful vibe that is priceless. We really felt she was truly happy for us. This joy is something that one can’t pay for. We are so glad we chose her to officiate our ceremony. Our day was even better because of it."
