VENDOR SHOWCASE: Jacqueline Gormley, Urban Daisy
Diving back into vendor showcases, this week we are chatting with the ever lovely Jacqueline of Urban Daisy! Jacqueline is an extremely talented make up artist with a passion for sustainability. I absolutely recommend checking out her social media channels once you’ve finished reading and exploring the brands and products she carries at her Boutique!
What inspired you to become a make up artist?
This is a question that I honestly ask myself all the time, how this obsession with makeup even came to be. I guess I would have to say it all started when I was 13 years old and my mom took me to a cosmetologist at Shoppers Drug Mart to teach me how to properly apply makeup. I'm not sure if it was the array of colour palettes or the 100's of brushes the Artist had but since that day, I was hooked! Makeup has always been a way of expression for me and no matter the emotion, the style, the feels that change each day makeup was a way to interpret that.
What is your favourite type of look to create?
My ABSOLUTE favourite makeup look to create is high fashion. By high fashion I mean editorial, and runway vibes. I absolutely love creating looks with bold colours and looks that are just completely out there and honestly something that not really anyone would wear, except for at fashion shoots. This has always been my niche, creating something out of the ordinary and making it spectacular. My dream had always been to work at Vogue and I think thats what had sparked my interest in the first place, looking at all the creative looks with such incredible fashion pieces. BUT then there is the other side of me that has evolved since the beginning of becoming a Makeup Artist, moving away from the creative looks to the au natural look. I know what you’re thinking.. it's completely one extreme to the other but I think thats the beauty of makeup. I love creating looks in the slightest manner that enhances my client’s natural beauty bringing out the true features of my clients and not covering it up with false highlight and contour. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love playing around with the false shading and highlight, completely changing the structure of the face but there is something so pure and elegant about truly enhancing my clients’ natural beauty.
How long have you been doing bridal make up?
It's absolutely crazy to say but this is my 7th season working with bridal clients and 19 years since starting in the cosmetics industry. It just blows my mind how fast time flies but I have to say, I am absolutely loving it.
How long do you typically require for bridal make up?
For bridal clients, I typically arrange from 1-1.5 hours and this is because I like to take my time with the bride and let her chill. Usually a bride is so busy for the entire day of her wedding and this is the only time she will get to just be. I have had many brides message me after their wedding day and thank me for holding space for them, it truly is an eventful day and sometimes it's nice to just have a moment to yourself.
Do you offer a trial?
Absolutely! A trial is so very important for a bride and while it is not necessary it is highly recommended. I want the BEST for each and every single one of brides and having a trial allows for the time to get to know one another and allows the time to reproduce her vision with as many looks as she would like to try.
How large of a bridal party can you accommodate? Do you have a minimum?
For me personally, I don't have a minimum number for a bridal party. Sometimes I have just the bride sometimes I have the bride plus 12 others it all just depends! No matter the size of the party I love working them all as each offers a completely different experience.
What is your favourite part of being a part of a couple's special day?
My absolute favourite part about being apart of a couple’s special day is actually meeting the couples. I have met SO many incredible, amazing, inspiring couples and it just warms my heart to meet so many from near and far. I have to say my coolest experience was when I was travelling New Zealand and had a bride inquire about doing her wedding in PEI. When we got to chatting I found out she moved to NZ and was actually living up the road from where I was staying there! How incredible is that? PEI is the farthest place possible from New Zealand and she chose me. <3
Do you offer on-site services?
Yes, yes, yes. I actually prefer/ suggest having on-site services. While it is so lovely to have brides in my boutique it is also less stressful to get ready on location. I say this because on the day of things can become overwhelming and time slips away so quickly. Allowing applications on-site allows for less of a rush and a lot less stress on travel time.
Do you do make up full time?
I do, yes! I am so incredible blessed to be able to do makeup full time but I have to say it is not my only passion. I have so many things that I love to do and so I want to be able do all of them. I can honestly say that I have never had less than three jobs at a time. I love being busy, and keeping things fresh so having three jobs allows me to spread my creative mind.
What are your favourite brands to work with?
Ouu, this is a hard one. There are so so many brands that I love to work with and for many different reasons but I would have to say my favourite brands are Sappho, Makeup Forever and Elate Cosmetics. Each one for their differences and truly pigmented products.
What is the best way to get in touch with you?
The best way to get in touch with me is through email at hello@urbandaisy.ca but to be honest every platform is pretty great for getting in touch with me as I am checking them all the time. My Instagram handle is: @urbandaisyboutique or through my website www.urbandaisy.ca.

Testimonials:
“Jacqueline was amazing on our wedding day. I only saw my wife when she walked down the aisle and I was blown away. She is a naturally beautiful woman that doesn’t wear a ton of make up as is, so I was worried the make up would be overdone and it was not. It was perfect. Jacqueline captured her beauty and made it even better somehow. This was the first time I ever really noticed make up in a good way.” - Jeremy
“Jacqui has served as hair and make up artist on two of my film productions, and I look forward to working with her again on many more productions. Jacqui is immensely talented and confident in her skills, but always asks for what her client/subject is looking for. She possesses a great wealth of knowledge about her craft and is always willing to take on new creative challenges. Beyond her work, she is a joy to be around and has become a good friend. Whether you are looking for personal make up services or need a hair and make up artist on a film production, I will recommend Jacqui to anyone and everyone. - Ryan McCarvill
